BCCI calls SGM on March 1 to appoint new joint secretary | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: In order to fill the vacancy caused by Devjit Saikia’s promotion to the position of board secretary, the BCCI called a Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on March 1 to select a new joint secretary.
After Jay Shah assumed the role of head of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on December 1, Saikia of the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) took over as secretary last month.
With a single item on the agenda, the BCCI sent out the SGM notice to the state associations.
“Notice is hereby given for a Special General Meeting (hereinafter referred to as SGM) of the BCCI which will be held at 12:00PM IST on March 1, 2025, at BCCI headquarters at Mumbai, to transact the business of Election and Induction of the Joint Secretary of BCCI,” the apex board said in a statement.
For the position, the names of former Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya (East Zone), Rohan Jaitley (North Zone) of the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA), and Sanjay Naik (West Zone) of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) are circulating.
There will not be an election to choose the board’s new joint secretary, as was the case with the BCCI secretary and treasurer.
Generally speaking, calling an SGM requires 21 days’ notice, and the BCCI has complied with this rule.
Following the January 12 SGM, where Saikia was elected as the new secretary and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia as the new treasurer, this will be the second SGM in less than two months. Unopposed, both were elected.
In order to guarantee that the board operates effectively, the joint secretary is responsible for supervising a variety of administrative duties and collaborating closely with other board members.
