ACB seeks time to see if 3 BMC officials can be named in graft case

Mumbai: ACB probing a bribery case involving BMC executive engineer Mandar Tari has sought two weeks from the court to decide if three additional BMC officials be named as co-accused. The special ACB court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of arrested executive engineer Mandar Tari.
The complainant, developer Goldie Sud, filed a complaint alleging that Tari, and two BMC officials, Digamber Sonawane and Govind Shelke, sought Rs 50 lakh to not act on structures served notices and an additional Rs 1.50 crore to permit illegal construction. The accusations were supported by an audio-recorded panchnama, in which ward officer Manish Walunj purportedly assured protection on payment of bribe.
ACBexecuted a trap in the case, but the petitioner contends that the investigation has not been pursued to its logical conclusion. The petition filed in high court calls for inclusion of Sonawane, Shelke, and Walunj as co-accused and addition of charges for syndication and extortion.
The petitioner has urged court to direct preservation and seizure of CCTV footage from BMC’s K-East Ward from Jul 21, 2024 to Aug 7, to corroborate allegations. High Court has yet to rule on the matter, with interim relief sought to preserve the CCTV footage while the petition is under consideration.
