Sameer Wankhede seeks CBI probe into atrocities case against NCP leader Nawab Malik
Sameer Wankhede sought transfer of an atrocities case to CBI. He filed a complaint against Nawab Malik. Wankhede accused Malik of making caste-based remarks.

NEW DELHI: Former NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede has petitioned the Bombay high court to transfer the investigation of an atrocities case against NCP leader Nawab Malik to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Wankhede, senior IRS officer and member of the Mahar Scheduled Caste, alleged police inaction in the case, citing significant mental distress and humiliation for him and his family.
Wankhede’s complaint, filed in August 2022 under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, accuses Malik of making defamatory caste-based remarks against him and his family on social media and during interviews. Despite the case, Malik has not been arrested, and a chargesheet has yet to be filed.
In his plea submitted on November 20, Wankhede highlighted the lack of progress in the investigation and sought court monitoring of the probe. The petition also accused Malik of leveraging his political influence to interfere with the investigation.
Wankhede alleged Malik’s defamatory remarks intensified after the officer arrested Malik’s son-in-law, Sameer Khan, in a drug case in 2021. The remarks allegedly targeted Wankhede’s caste and questioned the authenticity of his caste certificate.
The petition noted a restraining order issued by the Bombay high court in 2021, prohibiting Malik from making further defamatory statements. However, Malik allegedly continued to defame Wankhede and his family.
The matter is scheduled for hearing on November 28.
