In Madagascar, people practice Famadihana, or ‘the turning of the bones’, a ritual that sometimes amuses people and makes them uncomfortable too. After every seven years, families exhume their ancestors, rewrap their remains in fresh cloth, and dance with them. In Famadihana, death is not an end but a transition, and these rituals are a way to say that there is a connection between the living and the dead.
