596 e-challans issued by RTO for speeding on coastal road

Mumbai: RTO flying squads have taken action against 596 vehicles for over-speeding on the newly constructed coastal road during an ongoing special drive against traffic violations.
Joint transport commissioner Ravi Gaikwad said that the squads maintained surveillance on the coastal road between Marine Drive and Worli, and issued e-challans to 596 vehicles for exceeding speed limits.
Of these, 306 e-challans were issued by the Tardeo RTO in island city whilst 290 offences were registered by the Wadala RTO, whose squad was also present for the drive. Several high-end vehicles including BMW, Mercedes, Audi were intercepted for speeding, sources indicated.
This enforcement is part of a joint special drive initiated by the RTO and the Mumbai Traffic Police to curtail illegal racing and enforce traffic regulations on the newly opened coastal road. Four squads, including two from the RTO, have been positioned at crucial entry and exit points to monitor reckless driving, racing, and other infractions.
The coastal road accommodates a daily average of 18,000-20,000 vehicles.
