THANE: In a special drive, Kalyan zonal police arrested three persons and seized ganja from their possession worth nearly 12 lakh in different cases.
The police officer stated that special teams were formed recently to tackle the drug menace in the city.
During their patrols and based on a tip-off, the team members nabbed the trio and seized ganja weighing 29.9 kg, valued at Rs 5.97 lakh from their possession, the officer said.
He further stated that the police team from Dombivli police station spotted the accused at two different locations and seized the contraband from them. On Monday, at around 12.15 pm, the police found an accused hiding near the railway tracks at Ayregaon. Upon checking, they found him in possession of 7 kg of ganja, valued at Rs 1.40 lakh. He was arrested and identified as Kiran Shah, 42, a driver.
Again, on Tuesday, at around 1:05 p.m., the police team spotted two persons acting suspiciously near Shiv Mandir, Chole Gaon. Upon searching them, the police recovered 22.8 kg of ganja worth Rs 4.57 lakh, which was later seized. The two accused were identified as Sachin More, 21, and Sanju Luhar, 24, both residents of Barwani, Rajasthan.
The police registered an FIR against the trio under the provisions of the NDPS Act, the officer said. He added that an investigation is underway to determine the source of the contraband and its intended recipients.
