Palghar: Eight people were injured after three rounds were fired at their vehicle with a pellet gun at Naigaon (east) on Wednesday. The firing, a fallout of property dispute, took place in the presence of three police personnel. Among the group of attackers, seven people have been arrested.
The injured persons sustained pellet injuries to the thighs, shoulder and head. While six of the injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Vasai, one was shifted to a hospital at Mira Road. An occupant of a passing car claimed he had seen chunks of human strewn on his vehicle soon after the firing. The attack comes a day after the same group had allegedly been threatened with a gun.
One of those injured in Wednesday’s attack, Anish Singh(31), had already registered an FIR on Tuesday against the seven accused persons. Singh alleged that he and the others had gone to show a plot to a prospective buyer at Bapane locality on Tuesday when the main accused, Meghraj Bhoir, brandished a gun from his vehicle and pointed it at him, threatening to kill him if he ever visited the plot of land again, claiming that he was its owner, the FIR states, adding that Singh and his associates were assaulted with hockey sticks and bamboos.
Around 3pm on Wednesday, while the complainants and three policemen re-visited the spot for the panchnama of the previous day’s attack, the key accused allegedly came there with a group of people and opened fire.
Deputy commmissioner of police Pournima Chougule-Shringi confirmed that the latest assault took place while the panchnamawas being conducted.
This is the third crime involving guns in Mira-Bhayander Vasai-Virar in three weeks. One person was shot dead in Shanti Shopping centre on Jan 3, an armed robbery took place in Vasai on Jan 11.
