2,640 new buses to join Maharashtra State Transport fleet this year

Thane: Maharashtra transport minister Pratap Sarnaik has announced that 2,640 new state-owned buses will be inducted into the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) fleet this year. He made this announcement while inaugurating the National Road Safety Campaign in Thane on January 11. “The buses of MSRTC will soon be visible on every road in Maharashtra,” said Sarnaik, emphasising the extensive reach of this initiative.
Outlining a comprehensive modernisation plan, Sarnaik revealed that 17 red “Lal Pari” buses were inducted in Thane, with 150 more buses scheduled to join the fleet by the end of January. These buses will be allocated to depots in Thane city and rural areas. Subsequently, 300 new buses will be added each month and distributed across depots throughout the state.
The minister also detailed a “master plan” to transform the state’s transport services, focusing on both cleanliness and safe travel. “Only when we enhance the quality of every facility provided to our employees, from their uniforms to rest areas and sanitation facilities, can we provide better services to our passengers,” Sarnaik said.
In a significant announcement for MSRTC staff welfare, Sarnaik declared plans to establish a modern 100-bed hospital in Borivali. This healthcare facility will be integrated with the state health department’s services, ensuring comprehensive medical care for transport employees and their families.
