Mumbai: Colaba police have taken the statements of the one surviving employee of the Indian Navy speedboat‘s original equipment manufacturer (OEMs) and 21 others in the Dec 18 collision at sea. The surviving OEM staff member cited mechanical failure as the cause. Police are waiting for the statement of the 35-year-old chief petty officer, who remains unconscious with multiple injuries. “The OEM employee maintains his initial position about mechanical malfunction causing the collision. Survivors’ accounts suggest the speedboat appeared to be performing manoeuvres before losing control and striking the ferry,” said a Colaba police station officer. — V Narayan
