21% work on Bandra sewage treatment plant completed | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The BMC has completed about 21% of the construction work on the 360 MLD sewage treatment plant near the sea link at Bandra reclamation. Municipal commissioner Bhushan Gagrani on Saturday inspected the work being carried out at the site.
At present, the sewage treatment plant at Bandra carries out primary treatment of sewage and then discharges it into the deep sea through a marine outlet.

The new plant will treat 360 million litres of sewage per day at the secondary level. The plant will also carry out tertiary treatment of 180 million litres of sewage out of 360 MLD by using Membrane Bio Reactor technology. Once the plant is operational, the quality of sea water and marine life will improve, which will also benefit residents of Mahim, Bandra, Bandra-Kurla Complex, Kherwadi, and Santacruz.
The contract for design, construction, and operation and maintenance of the plant was awarded to Larsen & Toubro in May 2022, and work started on July 5, 2022. BMC said the construction period for the project is five years, and all works are expected to be completed by July, 2027.
