KOLKATA: Two students sustained injuries on Monday morning after a portion of a glass panel from the fourth floor of a school building in South Kolkata fell.
The school administration reported that one injured pupil received first aid and was released, whilst another was transferred to a private medical facility.
The officials stated that the incident occurred around 7 am when pupils were entering the school grounds. A substantial glass panel with its frame detached from the fourth floor, causing injuries to two pupils.
However, a group of parents contested this account, stating that two pupils sustained severe injuries, and another received first aid before being discharged.
The parents also raised concerns about the absence of an ambulance to transport the injured to hospital.
The school management explained that the ambulance driver’s illness caused his unavailability, but confirmed that the injured received prompt medical attention.
Debasish Kumar, the MLA of Rashbehari Constituency, visited the school and termed the incident unfortunate, emphasising that the institution should give equal importance to safety and education.
A representative from the school confirmed that an investigation into the accident would be conducted.
