2 injured in Ulhasnagar after scooter falls into 'unbarricaded' drainage pit
Two individuals on a scooter were injured after falling into a 6-foot deep pit dug for drainage work in Ulhasnagar. The incident occurred due to improper barricading by the contractor.

ULHASNAGAR: Two people travelling on a two-wheeler were injured after falling into a 6-foot deep pit dug for drainage line work in Ulhasnagar. Luckily, both survived with minor injuries, but their scooter was badly damaged.
Locals allege that the contractor did not do proper barricading at the work site, which led to the accident. Following the incident, the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation served notice to Eagle Construction, which is carrying out the drainage line work, asking them to take extra precautions while doing digging work to avoid such mishaps in the future.
The incident took place on Monday night when two people were going on a motorcycle near Axis Bank located in Ulhasnagar Camp Number 3.
The locals said the contractor had not done the barricading properly, due to which vehicles were coming and going from there on a narrow space next to pit on road.
During this time, the driver of the scooter passing by the pit lost balance, causing both the youths to fall into the pit along with the vehicle.
Sagar Valecha, a local resident, said that the pit is about 6 feet deep and both were stuck in such a way that they were unable to get out. The local people got down into the pit and took both of them out safely, resulting in only minor injuries, while the youths’ scooter suffered a lot of damage.
Ashok Ghule, a senior UMC official from the water department, said, “Prima facie, we found that the contractor installed barricades, but locals removed them and were using the area to drive vehicles. We have served notice to the contractor, asking them to deploy a security guard and also asked them to take extra precautions to avoid such incidents in the future.”
The work of laying new drainage lines in the entire Ulhasnagar city is going on at a cost of Rs 427 crores. In such a situation, people are facing a lot of problems due to the digging work going on at many places. At many locations, it is being alleged that despite the drainage line work being completed, the pits are not being filled on time, causing further inconvenience to the public.
