THANE: Two firemen attached to the Jawhar Baug fire station suffered bite injuries after a stray dog suddenly attacked them while they were attending a call to remove a fallen tree in the Gaondevi area late Wednesday, officials informed.
The incident was reported after the regional disaster management cell (RDMC) received an alert about a fallen tree near the Gaondevi bus station, following which a team, along with fire officials, rushed to the spot around 11 pm.
“The team was involved in cutting branches of the fallen tree and removing it from the spot when a stray dog suddenly charged at the team and severely bit two firemen. Even before anyone could react, the dog escaped in the dark. The firemen, identified as Ravi Shelke (M/37) and S Vispute (M/26), suffered bite injuries to their legs and were rushed to the Kalwa municipal hospital for treatment,” informed Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the RDMC, Thane.
A team from the municipal dog squad was alerted following the incident to prevent further attacks and locate the stray dog responsible.
