NEW DELHI: 2 individuals face legal charges for allegedly killing a stray dog by stoning and beating in Thane district, Maharashtra, as reported by police on Friday.
Following a complaint, authorities initiated legal proceedings on Wednesday regarding the incident that took place in Bhiwandi town the previous week, according to an official.
The accused individuals, identified as Mitesh Barodia and Bharat, allegedly attacked a stray dog with stones in the Kalher area on December 8 afternoon. They further assaulted the animal with a bamboo stick, resulting in its death, the official stated.
Authorities have filed a first information report (FIR) against both individuals under section 325 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which addresses killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering animals useless, along with the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, as confirmed by the official.
