12 hour mobile bathroom launched to alleviate challenges faced by women in Kandivli slums

Mumbai: A mobile bathroom for women was inaugurated today in Kandivli by state cabinet minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha and local MLA Atul Bhatkalkar. This mobile bathroom initiative was conceptualised by Lodha during his tenure as the Guardian Minister of Mumbai Suburban District and implemented through the District Planning Committee. The mobile bathroom will remain operational for 12 hours daily for women in the Kandivali Assembly constituency.
During his address, Minister Lodha said, “We understand the challenges faced by women living in slum areas when it comes to accessing proper bathing facilities. To alleviate this issue, we have implemented this first-of-its-kind mobile bathroom project, and it will be replicated in other areas.”
The bus contains a total of five bathrooms with showers, a water capacity of 2,100 litres, basins, and other essential facilities. Notably, the bus is also equipped with two dryer machines for women to dry their clothes. Power supply for the facility will be provided through generators.
To prevent water and time wastage and ensure proper management, female staff will be appointed to oversee operations. Each woman will be allocated five to ten minutes for bathing, after which the water supply will be automatically cut off.
