Gone are the days when we used to discuss flying cars. The imagination has finally turned to reality as California-based startup Alef Aeronautics has successfully demonstrated its electric flying car in action. The company released a video showcasing the vehicle driving on a public road before executing a vertical takeoff and then soaring over another car parked ahead of it.
Flying car jumps over parked car: What we see in the video
In the viral footage, the Model Zero smoothly lifts off the ground, hovers over a stationary vehicle, and lands before continuing its journey.
The test featured Alef’s Model Zero prototype, which features conventional automotive design with hidden rotor blades concealed within its bodywork. Unlike most flying car concepts that resemble large drones with external propellers, the Model Zero retains the look of a traditional car while possessing the ability to lift off the ground.
According to the company, the fully electric vehicle boasts a driving range of 320 km, while its aerial capabilities extend up to 160 km. However, its road-speed might be a let down for some as it can only achieve a maximum of 40 kmph. The company has received more than 3,300 pre-orders for its upcoming Model A, which is expected to enter production later this year with a price tag of $300,000 (Rs 2.61 crore).
