NEW DELHI: Tension flared in Bengaluru’s Chamarajapet area after unidentified persons attacked three cows, severing their udders in a shocking act of cruelty.
The incident took place in Vinayakanagar, leaving the local community outraged and distressed.
The cows, owned by a resident named Karna, were found injured and lying in a pool of blood, prompting immediate attention from authorities.
The BJP reacted strongly to the incident, with leader of the opposition in the Karnataka assembly, R Ashoka, announcing that the party would observe ‘Black Sankranti’ if the government failed to act.
“This despicable act reflects a dangerous mindset. We will not celebrate Sankranti and instead mark it as a protest day if the accused are not apprehended,” Ashoka told reporters.
Ashoka also highlighted the religious and cultural significance of cows during Sankranti, a festival where they are decorated and worshipped. “After such a heinous act, how can we celebrate Sankranti?” he asked during a visit to the scene. The BJP leader, along with party members, consoled the cattle owner and demanded justice.
Other BJP leaders, including Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, leader of opposition in the legislative council, and former deputy chief minister C N Ashwath Narayan, also condemned the attack and called for swift action.
Meanwhile, home minister G Parameshwara assured the public that a police investigation is underway and efforts are being made to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
