Director-actor Uppendra’s recently released sci-fi dystopian movie ‘UI’ is minting good numbers at the box office. According to the latest updates, the film has crossed Rs 22 crores in just 5 days.
According to reports by the movie website Sacnilk, ‘UI’ has collected Rs 22.95 crores from India in five days. On the fifth day, the movie collected Rs 2.15 crores, as per the website’s early estimates. The movie had made Rs 2.3 crores in India.
If you look at the day-wise box office numbers for the Uppendra starrer, you can notice a downtrend. Opening with an impressive Rs 6.95 crores in India, the movie dipped to Rs 2.15 crores on day 5.
Meanwhile, ‘UI’ had an overall 24.64 percent Kannada occupancy on day 5, Tuesday with morning shows at 12.22 percent, afternoon shows at 23.14 percent, evening shows at 26.55 percent, and night shows at 36.38 percent.
On the other hand, the Telugu occupancy for the film on day 5 stood at 15.68 percent with morning shows at 10.73 percent, afternoon shows at 16.44 percent, evening shows at 14.05 percent, and night shows at 21.50 percent.
Etimes review for the sci-fi film reads, “Upendra has remained synonymous with different and with UI, he adds another ‘different film’ to his filmography. There are two scenes that pay homage to his debut film ‘A’, and one of the character’s names is Satya (a reminder of Shivarajkumar’s character in Upendra’s directorial OM). There is hardly any scope to look for ‘performance’ as UI, as the director claims, is a reflection of life itself. Women, including Reeshma Nanaiah, are reduced to mere objects of desire.”
