THANE: Shiv Sena chief and Deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde said his party has supported the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections to avoid a split in Hindutva votes adding that his party was however ready to contest local body elections on its own after consulting alliance partners.
Shinde was addressing media queries following induction of party workers from various parts of the state and country into Shivsena Saturday evening in Thane.
“We have supported the BJP in the New Delhi elections as we wanted to avoid a split in the Hindutva votes and bring the NDA government to power there. we will however take decision to fight solo in the local body elections only after consulting with our alliance partners,” Shinde said.
He added that hardcore Sainiks were convinced that his party was following the principles laid out by Balasaheb Thackeray and were convinced thet he wouldn’t compromise on his principles for the sake of power and were joing him in large numbers,” he said.
