MUMBAI: On the occasion of India’s 76th Republic Day January 26, the Shanmukhananda Fine Arts and Sangeetha Sabha, King’s Circle, in association with the Indian Army felicitated 37 widows of soldiers from Maharashtra.
These were soldiers who had laid down their lives during the last year in various military operations across the country.

Major General Bikramdeep Singh, chief of staff, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Goa, along with Dr V Shankar, president of Shanmukhananda Sabha, felicitated them. Shanmukhananda presented a cheque for Rs 1.5 lakh each, in addition to household items worth Rs 50,000, shawl and other mementos.

Every year on Republic day and Independence Day, Shanmukhananda honours the martyrs’ kin as well as wounded soldiers for their acts of bravery.
Before the start of the programme, 75 students of Shanmukhanada’s music school sang the national anthem. An inter-religious prayer was performed by SIES Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial School.
