Mumbai: After contractors and engineers, state employees are now demanding that govt fulfil its promises made before the polls through the upcoming state budget. These demands include giving them a hike in dearness allowance (DA), along with arrears, on a par with central govt employees and implementing the old pension scheme (OPS) for all staffers.
The demands were made by Maharashtra State Gazetted Officers Federation in a letter to CM Devendra Fadnavis and deputy CM Ajit Pawar. The federation asked that the retirement age be made 60 for state govt employees, just like for central staff and employees of other states. Urging govt to fill all vacancies, it said almost 35% of the total 7.17 lakh sanctioned posts are vacant.
“From July 1, 2024, DA increased from 50% to 53%. Also, a 3% increase in dearness allowance has been proposed from Jan 2025 by the Centre. [It has been] the prevailing policy of the state govt to give DA increases like the Centre,” it said.
