Mumbai: A 40-year-old police constable, Riyaz Pathan, posted at Sewri police station, has been suspended and booked for violating election confidentiality rules after sharing a photo of his postal ballot paper.
Pathan, who cast his vote at a facilitation centre set up for government employees, took a photo of his marked ballot and sent it to a friend in Satara. The image subsequently spread on social media, prompting an investigation.
Election Commission had set up seven facilitation centres across the city for govt employees assigned to election duty. Strict instructions prohibited use of phones at the centres to safeguard voting secrecy.
Following an inquiry, the police registered a case at JJ Marg police station. Pathan has been suspended pending investigation. TNN
