Instead of buying kites this Makar Sankranti, you could learn to make them yourself. Several kite-making classes for kids are being held across the city.
Drishti Goyani, who is based in Kandivali West, is conducting a workshop for kids aged 3 to 5 years. Talking about the workshop, which will be held over one-and-a-half hours, she says, “To ensure the kids’ safety, we will make our kites with various kinds of paper and glue, along with fancy stickers . We will also be doing a short storytelling session, which explains why this festival is celebrated.”
Mrunalini De, whose four-year-old daughter who has enrolled for one such course, says, “Kids love the idea of buying colourful kites, but we should encourage them to make their own using their creativity. A kite-making workshop where other kids will also be present will teach them about working together to create something.”
For families who want to attend a kite festival, there’s the annual kite-flying festival in Vasai on Sunday from 3 to 6 pm. The festival will have a kite-flying competition, where kites and firki will be provided.
