MUMBAI: A 28-year-old woman and her male friend of the same age commuting on a scooter were left seriously injured after a motorist in a BMW collided into them at Borivli West late on Sunday. MHB Colony police arrested a 23-year-old man at the wheels of the BMW. A medical examination showed he was not drunk.
The incident occurred around 10 pm. The woman , Shruti Joshi, lives in Kandivli and had come to Dahisar to meet her friend, Abhishek Pardesi. After having some snacks, they headed out on a two-wheeler.
They were moving from Karuna Hospital towards Devidas Lane when a BMW was coming from the opposite direction. Police said the accused hit the accelerator instead of the brakes which resulted in loss of control.
It collided head-on into the scooter near Shanti Ashram bus depot. After the crash, the BMW drove into a fencing, broke it and continued a few metres ahead, before coming to a halt.
The accused then took the help of passersby to rush the two victims to Karuna Hospital. Joshi was critical when admitted. She is now out of danger. Pardesi is also stable. The accused surrendered before the MHB Colony police where a case of rash driving was registered against him. Police said he works as an automobile designer and lives in Dahisar.
