Mumbai: The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reaffirmed that its metro project crossing Halav Bridge in Kurla-West complies with all regulatory norms, including stringent aviation and fire safety standards.
An MMRDA spokesperson said, “The metro alignment, positioned at the second level above the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), adheres to height restrictions set by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) due to its location within the funnel zone of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).”
Additionally, all metro station buildings secured Fire No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and passed rigorous inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), in line with guidelines from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA), the spokesperson added.
On Feb 21, MMRDA conducted a joint site visit at Halav Bridge with officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Fire Department to evaluate the project’s safety measures.
MMRDA said that the clearance below the metro viaduct stands at 3.5 meters due to aviation restrictions, making height adjustments unfeasible. To address fire safety concerns, MMRDA identified and assessed alternative routes for fire tenders, ensuring emergency preparedness.
“Safety and compliance remain our top priorities,” an MMRDA spokesperson said.
