Thane: A 36-year-old milkman was safely rescued nearly 45 minutes after he got trapped in the enclosed elevator of an 11-storey Thane residential building, early Tuesday morning, officials said.
The incident was reported to the regional disaster management cell, Thane, around 7am when the delivery man, identified as Amol Raysure, was on his way to deliver milk to his customer staying on the second floor of the eleven-storey Nilgiri Cosmos Hills society in the Upwan area. After the elevator suddenly came to a halt, trapping him inside, the man raised an alarm, following which the society residents alerted the civic rescue teams that rushed to the spot and rescued him.
“The man was trapped inside the lift for nearly 45 minutes but luckily didn’t suffer any injuries,” said Yasin Tadvi, in charge at the RDMC.
Meanwhile, experts pointed out the recurring instances of snags in elevators in the last few weeks in the city. This is the fourth incident of lifts in residential structures developing snags and risking the lives of users, following which activists have questioned if safety norms were being complied with and if periodic inspections and maintenance of these crucial units were being done regularly by the society managements concerned.
