Navi Mumbai: In two separate incidents of sexual harassment of women, the Vashi Govt Railway Police (GRP) arrested two accused men.
Rajesh Shinde, Senior Inspector of Vashi GRP, informed that one accused, identified as Murtuza Bhanapurwala (50), a resident of Byculla, was arrested for flashing at a 17-year-old college girl at Sanpada station on Tuesday. The girl was seated on the bench at the platform and was waiting for the train to arrive when the accused, seated on the adjacent bench, flashed at her. She complained on the Mumbai Railway police helpline number after which the GRP cops apprehended the accused and registered an FIR against him.
Inspector Shinde said, “Yet another accused was arrested for stalking and allegedly inappropriately touching a 32-year-old woman while she was travelling in the first class ladies compartment of CSMT-Panvel bound train on Monday evening. The accused was identified as Aniruddha Kamble (45), a resident of Panvel. The woman stated in her FIR that on Monday, when the train reached between Nerul and Seawoods station, the accused Kamble, who was in the adjacent general compartment, allegedly deliberately touched her inappropriately by inserting his hand through the iron grille partition between the two compartments. She raised an alarm and complained on the railway helpline number. She even claimed that she had messaged her complaint on a WhatsApp group of RPF. After the train reached Panvel station, the accused was detained by the RPF cops, and an offence was registered against Kamble at Panvel GRP. As the incident occurred between Nerul and Seawoods stations, the zero case was transferred to Vashi GRP. The arrested accused Kamble was booked for stalking and sexual harassment under the provision of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The accused Murtuza arrested in Pocso case has been remanded to police custody by the railway court at CSMT, while the other accused Kamble has been taken to the court for seeking his police custody remand.”
