THANE: As part of the campaign against illegal Bangladeshis in Thane district, the Thane ATS unit and the Bhiwandi unit of the Thane Crime Branch arrested a total of eight Bangladeshis from two different places who were living illegally in the country. Out of the arrested eight Bangladeshis, one Rafiq Sheikh, 41, was living in different places in India for the last 20 years.
In the first case, the Thane ATS unit arrested four Bangladeshis from different places in the Kalher area of Bhiwandi. They were living in Bhiwandi for the last two to three years illegally and working as daily wage labourers.
The ATS unit, after nabbing them, handed them over to the local Narpoli police, who are further probing the case.
In another crackdown against Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in Bhiwandi, a Bhiwandi unit of the Crime Branch nabbed four Bangladeshis from a flat in Sai Apartment situated in the Kongaon area in Bhiwandi.
The arrested four Bangladeshis include Rafiq Shaikh, his brother Mahmudul, 22, Rafiq’s servant Ansar Chaudhari, 35, and Rafiq’s female friend Shivali Shisheb, 33.
The Kongaon police, probing the further case, said Rafiq was living in the country illegally for the last 20 years at different places and for the last few years in Bhiwandi, where he is engaged in the scrap business. The police found Rafiq first came into India and later brought his younger brother, servant, and female friend into the country.
