MUMBAI: Police have registered an FIR under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act against an unknown person after a three-year-old kindergarten student complained that a “monster” had touched her inappropriately in the school washroom.
Police said the school does not employ men but they will go through CCTV footage and record statements of school staff.
The incident occurred on Feb 12. The girl complained to her mother of discomfort, following which her mother made inquiries with the school.
The school management showed her CCTV footage. It showed female helpers taking 12 students to the washroom, including the victim.
They were also seen exiting the area after using the washroom. No male was seen entering or exiting the washroom. The girl’s mother then took her to a doctor who couldnt conclude if she had been touched inappropriately.
Based on her statement, the police has registered a case against an unknown person. They asked her if any of the female staffers had touched her inappropriately, but the girl denied the involvement of any woman.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
