Navi Mumbai:A Kamothe based couple, determined to save the trees along the roads, especially the plants on the road medians in their area begin their day early by venturing out with a pickaxe and water bottles in order to create a favourable condition for the trees to survive for long.
This little effort makes a huge difference for the trees, environment and for people. During their regular morning walk Dheeraj Patil (45) and his wife Dr Ujwala Patil (43), a BHMS doctor, would notice the dried up soil around saplings which would eventually die. Dheeraj then started digging water basins for such saplings. He had shared the photographs and his observation with the Panvel municipal body for further action. His wife also participates in this attempt to keep their Kamothe node green.
The couple reiterated that they will continue to protect more and more trees and saplings in their area by observing and identifying which all plants need a proper water basin to grow better. Patil said, “After all, it’s more than just a morning workout. It’s a mission with five powerful goals – fitness, productivity, sustainability, community encouragement and bonding. Digging basins to conserve water for saplings, my wife joined me as part of her morning walk and exercise.” He added, “We appeal to morning walkers out there to follow the habit. Let’s make 2025 a year of action and care, one tree and one step at a time!”
The couple joined by a few more tree lovers have successfully dug 16 water basins around the saplings on the road dividers during their Sunday morning. This has drawn the attention of the Panvel city municipal corporation authorities who send water tankers to pour water in the basins around the saplings. The response from the civic body came as a timely aid in saving the saplings.
Motivated by this positive feedback from the civic body, the Patils added that they will further expand their mission in order to create many more basins for the plants.
