Navi Mumbai: Environmental organisations in the city have planned a silent human chain demonstration to protect DPS Flamingo Lake on World Wetland Day, Feb 2. The initiative aims to send a clear message about protecting flamingo habitats, as the lake has dried up due to deliberate blocking of tidal water flow. Participants will hold placards reading ‘SaveDPSflamingoLake’, addressing concerns about migratory birds abandoning the water body in the recent months.
Peaceful demonstrators will stand for the visiting birds that traditionally inhabit the Mumbai region from winter through summer. The Bombay High Court had also ruled in favour of its restoration. — B B Nayak
