Mumbai: A call centre employee was abducted, assaulted and money was fraudulently withdrawn from his bank account by his former colleague and the latter’s friend recently. Police said the victim, AP Singh, was moved to various locations over a period of 15 hours by the accused who also forced him to strip before being filmed. Malwani police have arrested two people in the case.
Police said the prime accused, Agnelo Gomes, used to work with Singh at the same call centre. But when Gomes was fired, he held Singh responsible for it. Gomes suspected that Singh had given a written complaint against him, which led to his sacking.
Early on Dec 24, Singh finished his duty at the call centre and was dropped near his residence at Mahakali Nagar in Malad West by his office vehicle. Between 3 am and 4 am, Gomes and his friend, Aditya Bedekar, picked up Singh close to his residence. They allegedly assaulted him and forced him to sit on their bike. They took him to a desolate location in Goregaon where he was confined. Police said Bedekar later left.
According to the police, Gomes forced Singh to download loan apps on his phone, enter personal details and apply for instant loans. An amount of Rs 6.2 lakh was disbursed into Singh’s bank accounts. Gomes is accused of withdrawing Rs 2.6 lakh through ATM withdrawals and bank transfers. Gomes allegedly forced Singh to strip and filmed him in the nude, threatening to circulate the images on social media if the victim complained to the cops. Over a period of 15 hours, Gomes was moved to various locations. At one point, Gomes also took him to an eatery for a meal. After his release the victim approached the Malwani police.
