NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court in a suo motu case on Thursday stayed the order passed by Lokpal, which held that it could entertain complaints against high court judges under the Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013.
The apex court observed that the Lokpal’s order was “very disturbing” as it affects the independence of the judiciary.
Solicitor general Tushar Mehta also argued that a high court judge would not fall within the ambit of Lokpal and said that the order was wrong.
The Supreme Court further restrained the complainant from disclosing the name of the sitting high court judge against whom the complaint was filed.
Additionally, the court issued a notice to the Centre in suo motu proceedings over the Lokpal’s decision and directed the complainant to keep the complaint confidential.
