Mumbai: The Bandra police arrested a 57-year-old businessman on Saturday following allegations of sexual assault from an underage boy in Bandra (West).
The reported incident took place on Friday, where the accused allegedly approached the youth enquiring about his acting abilities before committing the reported offence.
Following the victim’s complaint, Bandra police filed charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexually Offence) Act, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Police said the victim, a 16-year-old student, resides with his family in Andheri East. On Friday at 3.30pm, the accused, who lives in Khar (West), encountered the boy on the staircase of a building near Alameda Park in Bandra (West).
Under the pretence of discussing acting opportunities and taking height measurements, the man allegedly sexually assaulted him.
Traumatised by the experience, the boy subsequently visited the Bandra police station to lodge a formal complaint against the businessman.
The police, after registering the case and conducting initial enquiries, apprehended the suspect from his residential area late on Saturday.
