Mumbai: In a jolt to the drug mafia, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), in its drive against a drug-free India, seized 11.540 kg of high-grade cocaine, 4.9 kg of hybrid strain hydroponic cannabis, 200 packets (5.5 kg) of cannabis gummies, and Rs 1,60,000 in cash from Navi Mumbai and arrested four persons.
The value of the banned substances is estimated to be Rs 200 crore.
Union home minister Amit Shah congratulated the agency. “Bharat crushes drug cartels with zero tolerance. A major breakthrough in Mumbai in seizing very high-grade cocaine, ganja, and cannabis gummies and arresting four people. It is a testament to the success of the top-to-bottom approach to investigation adopted to make PM Shri @Narendramodi Ji’s vision for a drug-free India a reality. Congratulations to team @narcoticsbureau on this massive success,” stated a message on X.
The investigation stemmed from a prior seizure of 200 grams of cocaine last month. Through extensive technical and human intelligence, the NCB traced the contraband to its source in Navi Mumbai. Findings indicate that the syndicate operated with members based abroad, sourcing some contraband from the US to Mumbai, and distributing it to various recipients in India and overseas via courier services and human carriers. The persons involved used pseudonyms and remained anonymous to each other to evade detection. TNN
