Mumbai: A 23-year-old lost his life and his 22-year-old friend received minor injuries after they were assaulted with bamboo sticks by a group of people on the New Year’s eve, according to Kashimira police. The victim, Raja Pariyar, was taken to Shatabdi hospital before being shifted to KEM hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday afternoon. The injured, Vipul Rai, has been discharged from the hospital. Pariyar and Rai were celebrating with their friends in Delta Garden in Mira Road when around 12:30am an argument erupted between them and a couple of residents over playing of songs on the DJ. The quarrel turned violent and the duo was assaulted, police said. Four of the 7-8 accused have been arrested. Four of them belong to a family, police said. —Vishal Rajemahadik
